Recently finished watching Chrno Crusade and it really has sparked my anti-God sentiments again. Stupid "God works in mysterious ways" bullshit! The time is set in 1928 and the place is America.
First, the Sinners (demons who stray away from their original motive of existence) are planning to unite Heaven and Earth, so that which is imperfect can be perfect. The churches are fighting like mad to stop the Sinners, but what was He doing? He was watching... not watching over, just watching!
Second, the protagonist, Rosette suffered so much just to bring down Aion, the leader of the Sinners. She lost her best friend; lost her brother and soon found him again, but he was crippled for life; her love was seriously wounded till the day he died (took him 1/2 year). Then, she lost her mind and started helping Aion spread his madness. After finally defeating Aion and preventing him from further corrupting humans, what did she get? She had her life shortened to only 1/2 a year remaining. This was God's reward for her, so she would not need to see the results of her actions (Recall the worst events that happened during and after 1928).
Third, God sent an angel to aid the churches and Rosette, but for reasons unknown, the angel was declared a fallen angel the moment he landed and was never told what his job was, except that he was supposed to watch. He was given eternal life and he was there to witness every horrible event that happened in history (He was there for the assassination of Pope Jean Paul).
Fourth, Aion did not die. Instead, he too was given an eternal existence on Earth and, just like the angel, would be there at every horrible event in history. Obviously, he was the cause of every one of those events.
So, in the end, what the hell did the heroes fight for?! The heroes died young, and one of them cursed to see the dark side of humanity. But the bad guy got eternal life and was free to do as he pleases. What !@#$%^&* was that about!? The ending showed a nun saying, "God works in mysterious ways, huh..." Yeah, real mysterious, you damn hypocrite!
